The goddess Bishalakshmi, often written Bishalakshi or Vishalakshi, is widely worshipped in rural Bengal. Bakkhali's temple to her is a local place of worship that many visitors include on a walk or drive around the village.

A 2016 travel report in Scroll.in places the Bishalakshmi temple at the end of Bakkhali's main beach. We have not verified its exact map position, history or daily timings, so we don't publish them. Ask at your hotel or at the temple for puja times and festival days.

Visiting respectfully

  • Remove footwear where asked, and dress modestly.
  • Ask before taking photographs inside the temple or of people at prayer.
  • Keep voices low and follow any instructions from the temple staff.
