Bakkhali can be visited year round, but the experience changes a great deal with the seasons. This is general seasonal guidance for the Bengal coast, not a forecast. Always check the latest weather before you travel.
October to February: the best months
After the monsoon, the air turns drier and cooler, the sea usually settles and days on the beach are comfortable. This is the most popular period, especially on winter weekends and holidays, so plan ahead.
March to May: hot and humid
Temperatures and humidity climb. Early mornings and evenings are the most pleasant times on the beach. This is also a season when cyclones can form over the Bay of Bengal, so follow official weather warnings.
June to September: the monsoon
Heavy rain, strong winds and rough sea are common. The landscape is lush, but bathing in the sea is unsafe and boat trips may not run. If you visit in the monsoon, treat it as a trip for views and quiet, not for the water.
A note on festivals and crowds
In mid-January, pilgrims travel to the Gangasagar Mela on Sagar Island, and the road towards Kakdwip can be busy. Long weekends and the Puja holidays also bring more visitors to the coast.
